Original spare parts for the whole world

A new standard in spare parts logistics

As a general contractor for holistic logistics solutions, we’ve planned and constructed our own spare parts centre: with warehouse space of 20,000 square metres for over 65,000 articles in 110,000 storage locations.

WMS, high bay warehouse, automatic small parts warehouse, and forklift trucks in seamless co-operation

In order to create the best conditions for a worldwide logistics network, we decided to build a new central spare parts warehouse in Kaltenkirchen, near Hamburg, which replaced the previous spare parts warehouse and management site in Norderstedt. The systems solution covers various rack systems, fork Lift Trucks from our range, and our in-house Warehouse Management System (WMS). We developed and implemented our central warehouse ourselves, as a general company involved in complete automatic systems.

The core of the automatic warehouse system is a 7-aisle pallet high bay warehouse with space for 21,168 pallets, as well as an 8-aisle automatic small parts warehouse with 80,000 container locations. In addition, the new logistics centre has separate storage areas for fast-moving items, bulk goods, and hazardous goods as well as a structurally separate export area.
Articles are put together depending on orders in cartons, special logistics boxes, or on pallets in the order picking area at ten container workstations and eight combined order picking workstations for pallets and container goods. Individual areas are linked using conveyor technology with a total length of over two kilometres.

“Incoming orders are handled more efficiently so that our customers get their ordered spare parts quicker”

A new standard in spare parts logistics

The increase in productivity in warehouse logistics due to the central spare parts warehouse is over 50 percent. We dispatch more than 11,000 parts worldwide every day. Up to 1,000 spare parts per hour in three time zones (America, Central Europe, and Asia) can be dispatched due to the bespoke automatic system solution.

The 3,800 square metre office areas in the spare parts centre are set up as an open-space office. “Transparent and direct communication paths between employees are a distinct benefit of this space concept. Incoming orders are handled more efficiently so that our customers get their ordered spare parts quicker”, says Stefan Brehm, manager at Jungheinrich Service & Parts AG & Co. KG.
